On November 8, the 12th session of the 13th Standing Council meeting of the Chinese Psychological Association was held at the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The forum informed the results of the vote of the 12th National Congress of the Chinese Psychological Society. Zhao Guoxiang, chairman of the Henan Provincial Psychological Association, professor of psychology at Henan University, and Secretary of the Party Committee of Henan Normal University, was elected as the president-designate director of the Chinese Psychological Association.
Founded in 1921, the Chinese Psychological Society (CPS) is one of the earliest academic organizations in China’s existing National Society. The Chinese Psychological Association is a member of the China Association of Science and Technology, with more than 13,000 individual members. At present, the Chinese Psychological Society has set up 33 professional committees (including one preparatory committee) in various branches of psychology, 12 working committees, and two periodical editorial boards. Closely unite provincial psychology associations in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government. The Board of Directors of the Chinese Psychological Association serves a four-year term. Since December 2009, the 10th Council has implemented the “three-chairman” system. The former chairman, the current chairman, and the president-designation co-chaired the work of the institute.
Zhao Guoxiang, a second-level professor and doctor supervisor, has been teaching psychology, scientific research, and social services since 1983. He has served as Dean of the School of Education and Science of Henan University, Vice President of Henan University, Executive Vice President of Henan University (positive school level), and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Henan University (positive school level). He is now a delegate to the 13th National People’s Congress, an alternate member of the 10th Henan Provincial Committee, a party secretary of Henan Normal University, and editor-in-chief of Psychological Research. He is also a member of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Psychology Department of the Ministry of Education, a member of the Steering Committee of mental health education experts for students in public colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, a member of the Steering Committee of mental health education experts in primary and secondary schools of the Ministry of Education, an executive director of the Chinese Psychological Association, a member of the Mental Health Professional Committee of the China Society of Health Information and Health Care, and a vice-chairman of the Henan Provincial Social Science Association.
As a psychologist, Professor Zhao Guoxiang has presided over 11 projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and key projects in philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education; In particular, over eight years, 136 scholars were organized to translate, compile ten volumes, 19 volumes, more than 20 million words of “Piaget Collection” (editor-in-chief: Li Qiwei, Zhao Guoxiang), It is to be published in November 2020.
As a subject leader, Professor Zhao Guoxiang, for more than 20 years as a day, adheres to the first heart, draw a blueprint, and forge ahead. He overcomes unfavorable conditions, strives for multi-resources, with his noble personality charm, excellent leadership ability, and unremitting will to unite to lead the psychology team of Henan University to be approved for the first-level psychology discipline doctoral authorization point, psychology post-doctoral mobile station, psychology provincial key disciplines, and psychology regional key laboratory.
As a social activist, Professor Zhao Guoxiang encouraged and advocated for the development of psychology during the National People’s Congress, and successively submitted proposals “About Establishing a Psychological Assistance System for Public Emergencies,” “About Establishing Community Psychological Service Institutions,” and “About Psychological Consultation,” which have aroused great attention from relevant state ministries and the society. He successively participated in the research and compilation of the “Examination Outline for the Public Selection of Party and Government Leading Cadres” by the Organization Department of the Central Committee. He served as an interviewer for the selection of cadres at the level of national ministries and commissions. He also participated in the drafting and revising of the Ministry of Education’s “Guiding Opinions on Mental Health Education for College Students.”
