In the morning of May 17, 2018, Dr. Richard Bischoff, Dr. Paul Springer and more than ten graduate students and undergraduate students from Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies, University of Nebraska U.S.A. had a seminar with more than 40 teachers and students from School of Education Science, Henan University at our meeting room 510. The theme of the discussion was “Family Research and Family Therapy”. Dr. Zheng Wang of our school was the question master.
At the beginning of the discussion, Dr. Richard Bischoff and Dr. Paul Springer introduced their research focuses. They used the theory of ecosystems to illustrate the importance of family relationships. For example, we all know that research shows if the child can immerge in a family environment with abundant vocabulary, the child’s language ability is better. However, what the the family studies focus on is: better parents-child relationship can make it more possible for children to have better vocabulary environment.
In the Q&A session, teachers and students from School of Education Science asked questions enthusiastically. Two professors from University of Nebraska answered patiently. In order to make the students understand better, Dr. Springer left his chair and used the screen to explain the relationship among the various systems.
Dr. Bischoff was also enthusiastic. When answering the wonder of a student, he picked up a three-legged stool to explain the ecosystem relationship among the child and family members.
Finally, all members of the symposium took photos in front of School of Education Science. The two-hour symposium ended successfully in a relaxed and warm atmosphere. Teachers and students of School of Education Science said, “We have benefited a lot from this seminar. It inspired us to consider the issue from the perspective of relationship. We look forward to the next opportunity to communicate with the teacher and students from University of Nebraska."
The College of Education and Human Sciences, University of Nebraska is also looking forward to have more in-depth exchanges with us. Our teachers and students are also warmly welcomed to visit University of Nebraska.
